love where you wed

When you live in a city as rich in history as Richmond it can seem nearly impossible to choose between beautiful lakeside barns, historic colonial era farms, and beautiful churches like the one in Church Hill famous for being the site of Patrick Henry's "give me liberty or give me death" speech. We followed our fantasy and went with the enchanting Seven Springs Historic Farm and Venue in Manquin.

Almost from the moment we arrived on site we knew this was it. There is a sense of calm and romance that you cant help but feel driving up their long tree lined drive. And the ability to stay on site with 20 of our closest friends and family was what sealed the deal for us. That is one of my favorite parts of any wedding, getting to see and share that time with loved ones from everywhere. The rooms and house were beautiful, and comfortable in their modernity; while maintaining their colonial formality and beauty.

And Have I mentioned the stunning bridal suite, with light pouring in for the most beautifully lit pictures imaginable? Okay I'll stop, see for yourself:

From there it only gets better, when you venture from the Manor house to the beautiful guest house (modeled after an original carriage house on the site), or the open carriage house which we used for our rehearsal dinner on site, another benefit of choosing a venue that allows you access for multiple days!

One of my favorite things about the guest house/ bridal suite was the little kitchenette in the guest house (which is so important when you have 7-10 people getting ready all at once). It made the perfect little bellini and mimosa bar for us to enjoy a few sips while getting ready! The rock candy stir sticks were a fun addition, originally picked because they looked adorable but actually sweetened the champagne so nicely!

Best. Day. Ever. Some of the littlest touches really make a difference in setting up for a wedding. Fun straws, cute napkins, and glasses make something simple just a little more fun!

The biggest thing to remember is that when you begin the site search remember that it is more important to choose a site that makes you feel something then just one that crosses all the marks on your checklist. You don't have to have the bar right next to the fire pit, next to the cornhole (in fact don't do that as I can imagine several flammable scenarios), but you do have to find a place that feels right to you both as a couple, fits your needs, and compliments your wedding. And if you're looking for a place that ties in the history and beauty of Virginia with the modern romantic touches of the city, might I suggest you start with this beautiful farm in Manquin, and say hello to the Hog Island Sheep for me!
